The Sherman Bearcats closed out the Grayson County Classic with a 6-2 victory against Sanger at Veterans Field on Saturday night.


Sherman (2-10) opens District 5-5A action by hosting Denton Ryan on Tuesday night.


In tournament action on Friday, the Bearcats beat Cedar Hill, 10-7, in five innings. Ben Cross was 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and scored twice, Trey Holtzclaw doubled, drove in two, scored and picked up the save, Hunter Stephens doubled, drove in a run and scored and Blake Steele scored twice.


Sherman started the day with a 7-2 loss against McKinney. Ben Cross tripled, walked and drove in two, Blake Steele singled and scored and Ethan Bedgood singled and walked.


Denison 4, HSAA 2


Austin Emery doubled and drove in two runs as Denison closed out the Grayson County Classic with a victory against HSAA on Saturday night.


Kaleb McAlester earned the win, Dalton Souther tripled and scored, Luke Kirkbride drove in a run and Christian Ruebeck singled, drove in a run and scored for the Yellow Jackets (8-6), who open District 5-5A play by hosting Wichita Falls on Tuesday night.


In tournament action on Friday, Denison had a 6-2 loss against Sapulpa (Okla.). Wilson Kirkbride was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in a run, Seth Thomas and Luke Kirkbride scored and Souther, Ruebeck, Cam Wheeler and Carson Auten singled.


Whitesboro Tournament


Whitesboro 15, Pottsboro 14 (8)


WHITESBORO — Brooks Barker’s walkoff double gave Whitesboro a victory against Pottsboro in its own tournament on Saturday.


Noah Greisen was 4-for-4 and a double shy of the cycle with four RBI and two runs, Scout Sanders was 3-for-4, drove in a run and scored twice, Grant Beste was 3-for-4 with three RBI and scored, Kade Brewer was 2-for-6 with a double and two RBI and Christian Goedecke was 2-for-4 with a double, drove in a run and scored three times for Whitesboro.


Hunter Watson was 3-for-5 and a double short of a cycle with four RBI and two runs, Will Cates was 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs, Jackson Lipscomb was 3-for-5, drove in a run and scored twice and Jasek Hooker drove in two runs and scored three times for Pottsboro.


In tournament action on Friday, Whitesboro defeated Bonham, 14-3, in six innings. Weston Hickman was 3-for-3 with a double, five RBI and scored twice, Sanders was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and scored, Beste was 3-for-4, drove in a run and scored three times, Cody Wolf was 2-for-4 and scored twice and Greisen homered and scored four times.


Bonham 3, Madill 1


WHITESBORO — Trevor Hartwell scattered four hits and a walk and struck out 12 as Bonham beat Madill in the Whitesboro Tournament.


Drew Abate was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored, Brant Stuber homered and drove in two, Jake Spiller doubled and scored and Tyler Rodriguez doubled for the Warriors (3-3-2).


In tournament action on Friday, Bonham suffered a 14-3 loss in six innings against Bonham. Spiller was 2-for-3, Cody Easley singled and drove in a run, Abate singled and scored twice and Tanner Herriage and Tanner Reaves each walked twice.


Melissa Tournament


Melissa 5, Saginaw 3


MELISSA — Tate Whittington doubled, drove in two runs and scored as Melissa beat Saginaw at its tournament on Saturday.


Grayson Hurst was 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored, Sean Turnage was 2-for-3 with a triple and scored and Bobby Houston singled, drove in a run and scored for the Cardinals (11-6).


In tournament action on Friday, Melissa had an 11-0 victory in four innings against Levelland. Sam Crain allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four, Whittington hit a grand slam, Tyler Womack was 2-for-3 with double, triple, three RBI and two runs, Adam Davis was 2-for-3 with a double and scored, Brady Morrison scored twice and Krisjon Segleski was 2-for-2 with a double, drove in a run and scored.


Melissa started the day with a 10-0 loss in four innings against Argyle. Houston and Womack singled and Morrison walked for the Cardinals.


Anna Tournament


Greenville 10, Anna 0


ANNA — Zach Howard walked twice during Anna’s loss against Greenville in its tournament on Saturday.


Rawley Hector, Colton Brown and Dylan Burr singled for the Coyotes (9-3).


In tournament action on Friday, Anna picked up a pair of victories. The Coyotes started with a 16-0 victory in five innings against Emory Rains. Hector threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks and was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and two runs, Jacob Odom was 2-for-4 with two doubled and four RBI, Tate Stroup was 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored, Burr drove in three runs and scored twice.


Anna then earned a 13-3 victory in five innings over Lone Oak. Odom was 2-for-3 with three RBI, Burr homered and drove in two, Brown was 2-for-4 with a double, drove in a run and scored, Jacob Williams was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Mason Simmons drove in a pair.


Sam Rayburn 10, Dodd City 2 (6)


ANNA — Brayden Vaught was 2-for-2 with a double, triple, drove in a run and scored during Dodd City’s loss to Sam Rayburn at the Anna Tournament on Saturday.


Clayton Dockery was 2-for-2 with two doubles and drove in a run for the Hornets.


In tournament action on Friday, Dodd City lost, 19-10, in four innings against Lone Oak. Tyler Babers was 3-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored twice, Aaron Munger finished with four RBI, Dockery was 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored and Vaught doubled, drove in two and scored.


Gainesville Tournament


FW Castleberry 7, Howe 1


GAINESVILLE — The Bulldogs closed out the Gainesville Tournament with a loss against Fort Worth Castleberry in the championship game on Saturday.


In tournament action on Friday, Howe and Gainesville played to a 7-7 tie in four innings. Peyton Reagan was 3-for-3, drove in a run and scored, Bryce Krantz was 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two RBI and two runs and Cade Courtney doubled and drove in a run for the Bulldogs (5-1-1).


Howe started the day with a 10-0 victory in four innings against City View. Cirby Coheley was 2-for-2 with a home run, five RBI and two runs, Dylan Hughes was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI and Dyson Dillard and Reagan each walked twice and scored twice.


New Boston Tournament


Genoa Central 9, Van Alstyne 1


NEW BOSTON — Chase Wilson singled, walked and scored during Van Alstyne’s loss against Genoa Central at the New Boston Tournament on Saturday.


Nathan Cuthbertson doubled and Tyler Wilson drove in a run for the Panthers (5-3).


Van Alstyne started the day with a 5-4 victory against DeKalb. Chandler David doubled and drove in a run, Chase Wilson doubled and scored and Jordan Velekei and Cuthbertson each singled and drove in a run.


In tournament action on Friday, Van Alstyne suffered a 5-4 loss to New Boston in eight innings. Rhett Gallagher was 2-for-4 with a double, drove in a run and scored, Hunter Hutchison doubled and drove in a run, Zane Madison doubled and Tyler Wilson and Tyler Neshyba drove in runs.


Ponder Tournament


Trenton 7, Northside 2


PONDER — Effrin Aguirre was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs as Trenton beat Fort Worth Northside at the Ponder Tournament on Saturday.


Nick Lozano was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Zackary Cranford was 2-for-5 with two triples and scored, Justin Lambright was 2-for-4 with a double, drove in a run and scored and Mason Boone doubled and drove in two.


In tournament action on Friday, Trenton suffered an 18-9 defeat in five innings against Glen Rose. Aguirre was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs, Cranford was 2-for-3 and scored three times, Lambright was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI and Jordy Caro drove in three runs.


Trenton started the day with a 13-8 loss against Abbott. Bryce Parker was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and scored, Aguirre was 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored, Cranford was 2-for-5, drove in a run and scored and Lambright doubled, drove in two and scored.
