ALLEN — Dalton Souther was 3-for-3, drove in a run and scored twice as Denison closed the Denton Braswell Tournament with a 7-5 victory in six innings against JJ Pearce on Saturday.


Cam Wheeler was 3-for-3, drove in a run and scored, Wilson Kirkbride was 2-for-4, drove in two runs and scored twice, Carson Auten and Nate Maulsby drove in runs and Seth Thomas and Austin Emery each singled and scored for Denison (2-3), which will compete in the Austin Tournament starting on Thursday.


Denison started Saturday with a 6-3 loss against Rowlett. Wilson Kirkbride was 2-for-3 and scored, Christian Ruebeck doubled and drove in two, Seth Thomas tripled and drove in a run and Souther and Cayden Earnhart each singled and scored for the Jackets.


In tournament action on Friday, Denison earned a 9-4 victory in six innings against Frisco Liberty to go with a 6-4 loss against Vista Ridge.


Maulsby picked up the win against Liberty by allowing two earned runs on three hits in four innings and was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Nick Moreno singled, drove in two runs and scored, Wheeler walked three times and scored twice and Souther singled and scored twice for the Jackets, who broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning.


Ruebeck was 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored, Souther and Auten each singled and drove in runs and Emery and Luke Kirkbride singled and scored during the loss against Vista Ridge. The Vista Ridge pitcher, Dylan Leach, is the grandson of former Denison standout Bob Leach, who helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the 1949 state tournament and was selected as the first state tournament outstanding player.


Greenville 15, Anna 5 (6)


ANNA — Jacob Odom was 3-for-3 with a triple, drove in a run and scored during Anna’s loss against Greenville on Saturday as the Coyotes split a double-header against the Lions.


Jacob Williams tripled, drove in a run and scored while Zach Howard walked twice, singled and scored and Dylan Burr singled and scored.


Anna started the day with a 12-9 victory against Greenville. Burr was 3-for-3 with a double and five RBI as Anna.


Howard was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored twice, Rawley Hector was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs, Odom was 2-for-2 with two walks, drove in a run and scored twice and Jaden Adams drove in a pair for the Coyotes.


Brock 10, Gunter 2 (5)


BROCK — Matt Hunter and Zach Lowe singled and drove in runs during Gunter’s season-opening loss against Brock on Saturday.


Carlos Chavez and Tristan Meadors drove in runs and Teige Harris doubled.
