MANSFIELD — Denison junior Lindsay Looney is headed to the state swim meet for the third straight year after once again winning region titles in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly at the Class 5A Region II meet on Saturday.


She won the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.26 and claimed the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.13 seconds. Looney won the 200 IM by seven and a half seconds over Lake Ridge’s Khadijah Brown and the 100 fly by two seconds over Braswell’s Alexa Barnes.


Looney will defend both of her titles at the Class 5A meet at the University of Texas on Feb. 16-17. Last spring she took gold in the 200 IM in 2:01.70 and the 100 fly in a state-record time of 54.41 seconds.


Looney cruised to first place in Friday’s prelims, taking the 200 IM in 2:08.82, which was seven seconds ahead of the competition and the 100 fly in 56.84 seconds, which was a win by by 3.5 seconds.


The Denison 200 medley relay of Looney, Brooke Finch, Brinley Finch and Emmaline Hill was 11th with a time of 2:06.58. They qualified 11th in the prelims with a time of 2:07.69.


Brooke Finch also was 16th in the 100 free with a time of 1:01.52 and 16th in the 200 free with a time of 2:15.76.


The Sherman 200 free relay of Christina Wakeland, Bella Maldonaldo, Brenna Michaelsen and Grace Deffibaugh was 15th with a time of 2:16.02. They qualified 15th in the prelims with a time of 2:14.53.


The Sherman 400 free relay of Deffibaugh, Grace Quick, Leslie Cornejo and Michaelsen was 15th with a time of 4:43.81. They qualified 15th in the prelims with a time of 4:43.03.


Maldonaldo also was 12th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:17.11.


In the prelims on Friday, the Bearcat quartet of Aldo Cornejo, Sam Aguilar, Dylan Schull and Michael Gajda was 18th with a time of 4:11.50 in the 400 freestyle and then was 21st in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:50.87.


Denison’s James Unerfusser was 20th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:27.61.
