DURANT, Okla. — Coming off an incredible run to the Elite Eight a season ago that included Great American Conference regular season and tournament championships, the 2018 Southeastern Oklahoma State women’s tennis squad was picked to finish second in the league according to the preseason poll.


The Savage Storm earned 33 points and three first-place votes, finishing one point behind Oklahoma Baptist in first with 34 points and four first-place votes.


Southeastern posted a 21-3 record a season ago, including a 6-0 sweep of conference opponents and a 16-match winning streak.


The Storm are ranked tied for fourth in the Central Region with the Bison according to the ITA.


Southeastern is led by returners Luisa Auffarth, Alexsandra Reljic, and Maria Martinez.


Auffarth piled up a 14-2 singles record and added 12 doubles wins while Reljic tallied nine wins at No. 1 singles along with 12 wins in doubles play. Martinez added 13 doubles wins and 11 wins in singles play.


Arkansas Tech was picked third in the poll, followed by Harding. Southern Nazarene, Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist rounded out the rankings.


Southeastern opens play on Feb. 15 at Arkansas-Ft. Smith and will play its first home match on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. against Seminole State.
