MELISSA — Taylor Carney scored 21 points as Melissa defeated Honey Grove, 76-43, to finish the first day of the Highway 5 Tournament.
Sally Clemmons had 19 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and four steals and Taylor Thomas added 14 points and five steals for Melissa (14-3).
Diavian Shaw had 15 points while Makiyah Johnson, Alexandra Morrison and Zakia Smith all finished with six points for Honey Grove (9-8).
The Lady Cardinals started the day with a 55-28 victory against Van Alstyne. Clemmons and Thomas scored 14 points apiece, Carney added 10 points and three steals and Natalie Conlin finished with six points, six rebounds and four assists.
Honey Grove started with a 42-37 victory against Denton Braswell. Johnson scored 14 points, Smith added eight points, Isabella Morrison chipped in seven points and Shaw finished with five points for Honey Grove.
Sulphur Bluff Tournament
Ector 59, Sulphur Bluff 14
SULPHUR BLUFF — Sunnie Bingham had 24 points as Ector closed the first day of the Sulphur Bluff Tournament with a victory over the host school.
Destiny Whitburn added 16 points and Stormy Shockley chipped in seven points for Ector (10-2), which closes out pool play against Rivercrest at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
The Lady Eagles started the day with a 43-40 victory against Paris Home School. Whitburn scored 22 points and Bingham added eight points.
Callisburg 39, Bonham 15
NEVADA — The Lady Wildcats opened tournament play with a victory against Bonham on Thursday.
Callisburg improved to 7-2 on the season.
Aubrey 48, Gainesville 32
ERA — The Lady Leopards opened tournament play with a loss against Aubrey on Thursday.
Gainesville fell to 5-8 on the season.
