MELISSA — Braydon Roberts led five Yellow Jackets in double figures with 15 points as Denison opened the Highway 5 Tournament with a 96-67 victory against McKinney Christian on Thursday.
Pierce Barker added 14 points, Dontre Flowers chipped in 12 points, Mykel Anderson and Nate Uber finished with 10 points apiece and Tarrence Gaines contributed nine points for Denison (4-6).
Van Alstyne 77, Covenant Christian 49
VAN ALSTYNE — Samuel Tormos scored 14 points as Van Alstyne defeated Covenant Christian in the Highway 5 Tournament on Thursday.
Austin Moore added 12 points, Noah Boling finished with 10 points and Jackson Rogers chipped in nine points for Van Alstyne.
The Panthers also had a 71-64 loss against Frisco Reedy in tournament action. Boling scored 31 points, Tyler Sperry chipped in 13 points and Tormos had nine points for Van Alstyne.
Lake Dallas 66, Pottsboro 37
ANNA — Kai Barr scored 11 points as Pottsboro suffered its first loss of the season.
Daniel Arnold added eight points and Ethyn Snider scored six for the Cardinals (6-1). Pottsboro will face Van Alstyne at Anna High School at 9 a.m. Friday.
Austin Shephard led Lake Dallas with 15 points with Patrick Richardson adding 11 and Udo Onyekwere scoring 10.
Marietta (Okla.) 60, Gunter 41
MADILL, Okla. — Zander Turner scored 14 points as Gunter opened the Madill Tournament with a loss against Marietta (Okla.) on Thursday.
Tyler Scott added seven points and Tristan Meadors and Kyle Watson finished with six points apiece for Gunter (3-4), which continues tournament play today.
Sulphur Bluff Tournament
Ector 85, CHESS 59
SULPHUR BLUFF — Deviaire Patterson had 24 points, 13 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists as Ector opened the Sulphur Bluff Tournament with a victory against CHESS on Thursday.
Austin Earl added 14 points while Nathan Essary, Garen Norwood and Kenny Nelms all finished with 13 points apiece for Ector (9-4), which faces Paris Home School and Sulphur Bluff today as tournament action continues.
Millsap 56, Tom Bean 52
POOLVILLE — Bryce Grier had 24 points and five rebounds as Tom Bean opened the Poolville Tournament with a loss against Millsap on Thursday.
Ben Lind added nine points and seven rebounds, Dillon Curd chipped in seven points and four rebounds and Perry Williams grabbed seven rebounds for Tom Bean (5-5).
Whitewright 60, Australia 57
PRINCETON — Dylan Pitt scored 24 points and Marcus Reeves added 18 Thursday as Whitewright defeated an Australian touring team to wrap up the first day of the Princeton Tournament.
The Tigers opened the day with a 48-35 loss to host Princeton. Pitt scored 12 points and Jordan Meixelsperger had eight.
Whitewright will play Bridgeport at 7 p.m. Friday in the third-place semifinals.
