POTTSBORO — Zya Nugent scored 17 points as Denison defeated Gunter, 65-37, to finish the first day of the Pottsboro Tournament.
Ikia Lacy added 12 points while Taylor Dawes and Taryn Gaines each finished with 1 points for the Lady Yellow Jackets (10-3).
Tori Gittens led Gunter with 21 points and Sara Putnicki added 11 points.
Denison started the day with a 61-56 loss in overtime against Melissa. Nugent had 22 points, Zachareia Sommers added seven points, and Lacy, Zaycia Guthrie and Maddi Nixon finished with six points apiece.
The Lady Cardinals (9-2) forced overtime by outscoring Denison 18-7 in the fourth quarter. Taylor Thomas had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, Taylor Carney and Sally Clemmons each scored 11 points, Ashley Gideon chipped in nine points and six rebounds and Natalie Conlin finished with eight points and six rebounds.
Melissa started the tournament with a 53-42 victory against Bowie. Conlin had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals, Thomas added 11 points, five steals and four rebounds, Gideon scored nine points and Charley Lane totaled nine points and nine rebounds.
Gunter started its day with a 65-41 victory against Gainesville. Gittens had 26 points while Bri Carr and Putnicki each finished with 12 points.
Krum 57, Sherman 36
POTTSBORO — Jaylen Edmonson scored 12 points as the Lady Bearcats closed out the first day of the Pottsboro Tournament with a loss against Krum.
Sherman started with a 79-41 loss against host Pottsboro. Edmonson led the way with 14 points.
The Lady Bearcats continue tourney action today at 11:40 a.m. against Aubrey at Pottsboro High School and at 2:20 p.m. at Pottsboro Middle School. Sherman finishes against Gainesville at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday.
Pottsboro 47, Aubrey 36
POTTSBORO — Madeline O’Hanlon had 19 points and 14 rebounds as the host Lady Cardinals closed out the first day of their tournament with a victory against Aubrey.
Haiden Williams added 14 points, six assists and five rebounds, Hadley Williams chipped in five points and Tatum Rekieta grabbed six rebounds for Pottsboro.
The Lady Cardinals started the day with a 79-41 victory against Sherman. O’Hanlon had 20 points, five rebounds and three assists, Hadley Williams scored 14 points, Haiden Williams chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, Riley Westervelt totaled six points and 12 rebounds and Hannah Fellinger finished with six points, five assists and four rebounds.
Aubrey 63, Honey Grove 56
POTTSBORO — Diavian Shaw scored 15 points as Honey Grove finished the first day of the Pottsboro Tournament with a loss against Aubrey.
Isabella Morrison added 10 points, Demetria Pruitt chipped in nine points and Bree Cason finished with seven points for Honey Grove (6-5).
The Lady Warriors started the tournament with a 48-32 loss against Krum. Shaw scored 18 points to lead the Lady Warriors.
Dodd City Tournament
Dodd City 74, Rivercrest 35
DODD CITY — Abby Weeks scored 29 points as Dodd City closed out the first day of its tournament with a victory against Rivercrest on Thursday.
Paige Granstaff added 22 points, Journie Hilliard chipped in eight points and Marissa Mills finished with seven points for Dodd City (9-0).
The Lady Hornets started with a 78-15 victory against Wolfe City. Granstaff scored 31 points, Weeks added 16, Dani Baccus totaled 12 points and Delaney Pilliod finished with 11 points.
Van Alstyne 70, Bonham 22
DODD CITY — Micah Welch scored 18 points as Van Alstyne closed the first day of the Dodd City Tournament with a win against Bonham.
Emma Donald and Avery Duncan each added 11 points for the Lady Panthers (6-2), who face Sam Rayburn today at 8:30 a.m. and an opponent to be determined at 4 p.m. as tourney play continues.
Van Alstyne started the day with a 50-28 victory against Bland. Harley Butler had 14 points while Breanna McCaskill added 10 points.
Whitewright 55, Tom Bean 38
DODD CITY — Kayela Willis scored 13 points with Amaya Rice and Jy’Rea Johnson adding 12 points apiece as Whiteright defeated Tom Bean at the Dodd City Tournament.
Alyssa Edwards led Tom Bean (4-5) with 10 points and Jillian Beck chipped in nine points.
Tom Bean started the day with a 51-31 victory over the Dodd City junior varsity. Edwards led the way with 12 points and Chloe Farrer had 11 points.
Valley View Tournament
Whitesboro 54, Blue Ridge 45
VALLEY VIEW — Piper Dunn and Destiny Mack each scored 11 points to lead Whitesboro past Blue Ridge at the Valley View Tournament on Thursday.
Karlee Schuessler chipped in 10 points and Phoenix West and Casey Monk totaled eight points apiece.
Ellery Martin led Blue Ridge with 19 points and Shelby Gerner added 15 points.
Whitesboro started the day with a 56-34 loss against Lindsay. Dunn had 14 points, Casey Monk added seven points and West finished with six points. Lindsay’s Alaina Klement scored 13 points.
Whitesboro (7-4) will continue tournament play against Nocona and Valley View on Friday.
S&S 55, FW Diamond Hill-Jarvis 15
SADLER — Payton White scored 16 points and Taylor Jackson added 12 points as S&S cruised through the first round of its For Love of the Game Tournament.
Kylie Hicks and Halie Hicks each scored six points for the Lady Rams (6-5).
In other first-round games, Collinsville defeated McKinney Christian, 62-54, Texoma Christian lost to Farmersville, 46-14, and Alvord beat Henrietta, 57-54.
In Friday’s championship semifinals, Collinsville will play Alvord at 3 p.m. and S&S will play Farmersville at 6 p.m.
