BRIDGEPORT — Garrett Vannoy ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and Collinsville shut out Seymour in the second half to knock off the District 5-2A (I) champions, 21-20, in a Class 2A Division I Region II bi-district game at Bridgeport on Thursday night.
Gustavo Romo’s 17-yard touchdown run with 11:32 left in the game, followed by Samuel Aldaco’s extra point, proved to be the difference for the Pirates (7-4), who will face either Bosqueville or Hico in the area round next week.
David Watson had 14 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns and Cade Holden threw a 51-yard TD pass to Aaron Ermis for Seymour (9-2).
Windthorst 46, Bells 42
BOWIE — A throw to the end zone with no time remaining was intercepted by Windthorst and the Trojans won a wild Class 2A Division I Region II bi-district match-up on Thursday night.
Bells (8-3) took a 42-39 lead with 5:37 left when Jacob Taylor returned an interception 82 yards for a touchdown but Nathan Bales scored on a 20-yard run with 2:43 remaining to put Windthorst (6-5) back in front. The Panthers then drove to the 13-yard line with four seconds on the clock and Koy Pennartz snagged the interception to seal the victory.
Hunter Hawthorne had 13 catches for 174 yards and two touchdowns while Eli Strickland ran for two scored and caught a TD pass from Bryan Ponder, who was 38-of-51 for 397 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Hawthorne finished his career with 338 catches for 4,846 yards and 59 touchdowns. Those rank second, third, and fourth, respectively, all-time in Texas high school football.
Pennartz ran for 171 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries to pace Windthorst.
Class 4A Division II Region II
Celina 63, Ferris 13
MESQUITE — Noah Ross was 10-of-12 passing for 232 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score as Celina defeated Ferris in a bi-district match-up at Hanby Stadium on Thursday night.
Major Martin had two catches for 86 yards and a score, Jimmy Allan totaled three catches for 82 yards and a score and Logan Point ran for two touchdowns for Celina (8-3), which will face either Jasper or Atlanta in the area round next week.
The Bobcats had a 50-6 lead at half-time.
Damian Edwards returned a kickoff 88 yards for a score and Caleb Cox returned a fumble 61 yards for a touchdown for Ferris (4-7), which managed just 34 yards on 43 snaps.
Class 3A Division I Region II
Kemp 45, Pottsboro 21
FORNEY — The Pottsboro Cardinals were eliminated from the playoffs with a bi-district loss against Kemp on Thursday night at Forney High School.
Pottsboro (6-5) went to the second quarter tied at 14 but trailed 29-14 at the break and 36-21 after three quarters.
Kemp (10-1) will face either Mount Vernon or Redwater in the area round next week.
Class 2A Division I Region III
Wolfe City 21, Union Grove 20
EMORY — The Wolfe City Wolves used a fourth-quarter touchdown to edge Union Grove in a bi-district game at Emory Rains on Thursday night.
The score was tied at 14 at half-time and Union Grove (7-4) held a 20-14 advantage in the fourth quarter before Wolfe City (9-2) pulled out the victory.
The Wolves will face either San Augustine or Deweyville in the area round next week.
Class 1A Division I Region IV
Union Hill 56, Fannindel 6
PARIS — The Fannindel Falcons were eliminated from the playoffs with a bi-district loss against Union Hill on Thursday night at Paris Chisum.
Union Hill (11-0) will face either Coolidge or Avalon in the region semifinals next week.
Fannindel (5-5), which was in the playoffs for the first time since 2013, scored their lone touchdown down 48-0 in the second quarter.
