Rayvon Hester scored 28 points and Kemonte Dowdy added 18 Tuesday as the Sherman Bearcats opened their season with a 59-54 home victory over McKinney North.


Down two entering the fourth quarter, Sherman outscored the Bulldogs 19-12 over the final eight minutes to win.


Malik Perry 29 scored a game-high 29 points for North (0-1), but was the only Bulldog to reach double figures.


Darrian Guess added five points for the Bearcats with Tazorrian Smith scoring four and Jaiylen Woodson and Dadrien Calhoun-Moore getting two apiece.


Sherman (1-0) returns to action at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Arlington Martin.


Frisco Independence 82, Denison 62


Rustin Workman had 16 points during Denison’s season-opening loss against Frisco Independence on Tuesday night.


Dontre Flowers added 10 points, Mykel Anderson chipped in seven points and Devonte Fulce finished with six points for the Yellow Jackets, who play at Frisco Reedy at 6 p.m. on Monday night.


Sam Rayburn 40, Sanger 34


IVANHOE — Riley Hall scored 14 points to lead Sam Rayburn past Sanger in district action on Tuesday night.


Vaden Brownfield and Coleman McCraw added nine points each for the Rebels (1-1).


Sam Rayburn took a 12-7 lead in the first quarter and held on as Sanger (0-1) closed to within two points at the end of the third quarter.


Landon Ceballos had a game-high 16 points for Sanger.


The Rebels return to action Monday when they visit Been Wheeler Martin’s Mill.
