MIDLOTHIAN — The Callisburg Lady Wildcats earned their second straight trip to the state tournament with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-21 victory against Beckville in the Class 3A Region II final on Saturday.
Callisburg (41-3) will play in the state semifinals at either 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Culwell Center in Garland against either Boyd, Goliad or East Bernard. The pairings will be announced today.
Beckville came into the match with a 41-0 record.
In the region semifinals on Friday, Callisburg earned a 25-18, 25-13, 25-13 victory against New Diana.
Beckville def. Gunter 3-0
MIDLOTHIAN — Camryn MacDonald had 16 kills and eight digs for Gunter but Beckville defeated the Lady Tigers, 25-18, 25-20, 25-15, in a Class 3A Region II semifinal on Friday night.
Beth Gilbreath added six kills, Sarah Franze and Nyah Ingram each collected 11 digs, Jacee Childers handed out 26 assists to go with eight digs, Lakin Satre chipped in three kills and Alyssa Jarrell finished with 13 digs for Gunter (30-12), which matched its best season in school history by making the region tournament for the second time and first since 2012.
Class 1A Region II
Blum def. Tioga 3-0
SAN ANGELO — The defending state champion Lady Bulldogs were unable to go for a second straight title as Blue defeated Tioga, 25-20, 25-19, 26-24, in the Class 1A Region II final at San Angelo Central on Saturday.
In the region semifinals on Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs earned a 25-16, 25-14, 25-9 victory against Coolidge.
Class 2A Region II
Thrall def. Blue Ridge 3-1
WEATHERFORD — Shelby Gerner had 14 kills, seven blocks and eight digs for Blue Ridge but Thrall defeated Lady Tigers, 20-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-9, in a Class 2A Region II semifinal on Friday night.
Kelsie Kennon added eight kills and 13 digs, Skylar Gerner totaled six kills and six blocks, Dakota Deckard handed out 13 assists to go with six digs and Taylor Langwell collected 32 digs for Blue Ridge (23-13), which finished the best season in school history with its first trip to the region tournament.
