PARIS — The Leonard Tigers jumped to an early lead and set up a showdown with Gunter for the district championship after a 38-14 victory against Paris Chisum in 6-2A (II) action on Friday night.


Ronnie Hart completed 9-of-14 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 114 yards and two scores on 10 carries for Leonard (6-3, 5-0), which faces Gunter to close out the regular season with the winner claiming the district title and top seed for the playoffs.


Chisum (3-6, 2-3) could have earned a playoff spot with a victory but now needs to win its last game against Whitewright to have a chance to get into the postseason.


The Tigers built a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. Leonard marched 55 yards for a score with 8:55 left in the period. Hart connected with Byron Bolin on a 10-yard TD pass and accounted for 40 yards on the drive passing and running.


Five minutes later Hart threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to J.J. Brian.


With 7:01 left in the second period Chisum had two scores on the same drive called back due to penalties.


Unable to cut the deficit in half, the Mustangs then saw Leonard double the lead.


Michael Shulze caught a 40-yard pass from Hart. taking the ball down to the Chisum 15-yard line. From there Tanner Young ran it in for a touchdown at the 6:11 mark of the second quarter.


Right before half-time the Tigers went 49 yards with Hart running to the 31 of the Mustangs and finishing the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run and a 26-0 lead at the break.


Shulze caught passes of 12 and 11 yards on Leonard’s next possession. Hart capped the drive with an eight-yard touchdown run with 4:33 left in the third quarter and the Tigers led 32-0 before Chisum finally scored on a seven-yard run by Roby Pridemore. with just over two minutes left in the third.


Early in the fourth quarter Brian scored Leonard’s final touchdown from two yards out. He finished with 18 carries for 91 yards.


Kalen Reeves caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Luke Chalaire to finalize the scoring for the Mustangs with 1:30 remaining.
