SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Lady Vaqueros have one more match to play to find out who and when they play in the first round of the Class 3A state volleyball playoffs.

Since San Diego and Cotulla finished District 30-3A tied for second place with identical 5-3 records, the two teams are going at it one more time to determine who enters the postseason in second and who goes in at third.

The 30-3A seeding game is at 4:30 p.m. Friday at George West High School. Depending on the outcome, San Diego will fave either 29-3A’s Skidmore-Tynan or Taft ether at George West Monday or Beeville on Tuesday.

Sam Diego and Cotulla went head-to-head twice this season. The Lady Vaqueros won the first match up in three games. Cotulla won the second game in four.

San Diego volleyball coach Missy Gonzalez said she’s confident that regardless of the outcome Friday, she knows her team will play a solid match.

“We feel a lot more confident this time around,” she said. “We’re running quicker stuff and we’re just better than we were earlier this season. We’re getting more aces and our hitting percentages have increased.”

San Diego is led by Leandra Bazan, who is among South Texas leaders in kills and blocks this season.
