TOM BEAN — Chazz Maxey had 238 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries as the S&S Rams doubled up the Tom Bean Tomcats, 28-14, in non-district action on Friday night.

S&S’s Cole Sloan intercepted Bryce Grier to take possession and the Rams (2-0) opened their scoring drive with a 34-yard run by Jayce Howard less than two minutes into the game.

On the next possession, S&S forced a fumble and took over on its 49 yard-line and drove 51 yards in 14 plays to take a 14-0 lead with 3:23 left in the quarter as Maxey scored from four yards out.

In the second quarter Tom Bean scored on a eight-yard carry by Zack Lusk to bring the Tomcats within eight early in the period and the teams traded possessions the rest of the half with S&S controlling a 14-6 advantage.

Starting the second half, S&S took four minutes off the clock and Howard, who ran for 109 yards on 14 carries, connected with Sloan on a 43-yard pass to the one. Sloan finished with three catches for 80 yards.

Ruri Aguilar scored on the next play for a 21-6 lead.

Tom Bean drove to the 16-yard line but S&S forced a fumble to turn back the Tomcats. Tom Bean returned the favor on S&S’s drive with Grier intercepting Howard, although the Tomcats couldn’t capitalize on the turnover.

When Tom Bean got the ball back late in the third quarter, a 27-yard TD run by Blakeston Jones followed by Grier running in the conversion made it a one-possession margin at 21-14.

Grier led the Tomcats with 13 carries for 54 yards while Jones added 49 yards on 10 carries. Lusk caught three passes for 106 yards.

Penalties plagued the Rams as they were flagged 15 times for 132 yards. But S&S was able to control the fourth quarter and ran the clock down to 3:34 remaining when Maxey scored on a two-yard run. An interception gave S&S possession to preserve the victory.

Tom Bean travels to Whitewright this week while S&S plays at Collinsville.
