GAINESVILLE — Hunter Watson ran for 147 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries as Pottsboro held off Gainesville, 35-33, in the season-opener on Friday night.
Will Cates added 27 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown as the Cardinals struggled through the air with Watson completing just 5-of-20 attempts for 58 yards with two interceptions. Ross Hendrix led Pottsboro with two catches for 39 yards.
Draylon Franklin was 21-of-29 for 453 yards and five touchdowns with one interception, Calion Baker finished with 12 catches for 303 yards and three touchdowns to go with 13 carries for 59 yards and Josh Kemp totaled five receptions for 116 yards and 2 TDs for Gainesville.
Van Alstyne 50, Wilmer-Hutchins 18
WILMER — Scott Taylor finished with 172 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries as Van Alstyne won its season-opener against Wilmer-Hutchins on Friday night.
Rhett Gallagher was 11-of-16 passing for 181 yards and three touchdowns, Chase Wilson had four receptions for 118 yards and two TDs and Nathan Cuthbertson added a touchdown catch for Van Alstyne.
Keondre Knight ran 13 times for 108 yards and a touchdown for Wilmer-Hutchins.
Bonham 54, Ferris 19
FERRIS — Hayden Stevenson ran for 185 yards and three touchdowns as Bonham opened the season with a victory against Ferris on Friday night.
Tyler Rodriguez added 134 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and was 4-of-7 passing for 38 yards and a TD while Izaiah Epps led the defense with 11 tackles and Ronnie Cox chipped in two sacks for the Warriors, who won their opener for the first time since 2012.
Pilot Point 35, Krum 14
PILOT POINT — Ty Hellman ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries and caught three passes for 88 yards as Pilot Point opened its season with a victory against Krum on Friday night.
Jacob Pitts had 20 carries for 137 yards and a TD and was 4-of-6 passing for 100 yards while Reagan Gochis added a touchdown run and returned a kickoff 77 yards for a score for Pilot Point.
Chase Tower threw a touchdown pass to Larenzo Tystad and Donald Brown added a TD run for Krum.
Celina 34, Princeton 26
CELINA — Ismael Ortiz ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries as Celina started the season with a victory against Princeton on Friday night.
Noah Ross was 7-of-14 passing for 111 yards and added a TD run, Ryan Nebeker chipped in a touchdown run and Skyler Bohall returned an interception 30 yards for a score for Celina.
Brendon Strickland was 20-of-39 passing for 351 yards and a TD and Jacob Purdon ran 19 times for 89 yards and two touchdowns for Princeton.
Blue Ridge 34, Detroit 12
BLUE RIDGE — Joel Linn had eight catches for 154 and three touchdowns as Blue Ridge opened the season with a victory against Detroit on Friday night.
Tyson Walters was 10-for-15 for 189 yards and four touchdowns, Garrett Mathers had 12 carries for 112 yards and a score and Brody Wiggins caught a TD pass for Blue Ridge.
Honey Grove 37, Trenton 0
HONEY GROVE — Jake Caffee had seven carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns as Honey Grove beat Trenton in the season-opener for both teams on Friday night.
Trel Pruitt finished with 117 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, Ben Patrick threw a TD pass to Keaton Thompson and Devin Fulbright added a 61-yard touchdown run for the Warriors, who finished with 40 carries for 255 yards.
Tyler Gray led Trenton with 20 carries for 95 yards.
Bells 54, Era 8
BELLS — Bryan Ponder was 27-of-41 for 366 yards and six touchdowns with an interception as Bells opened the season with a non-district victory against Era on Friday night.
Hunter Hawthorne caught 10 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns, Newman Montgomery added four receptions for 68 yards and two TDs, Jorydn Ross added a scoring catch and Cire Luster had three catches for 34 yards and a TD to go with two carries for 50 yards and two touchdowns for Bells, which finished with 482 yards.
Wolfe City 54, Dallas First Baptist 26
DALLAS — Jed Cagle had 10 carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns and was 7-of-10 passing for 146 yards and two TDs as Wolfe City raced past Dallas First Baptist in the season-opener on Friday.
Devonta Brown totaled 160 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, Dylan Wilson added 72 yards and two scores on 10 rushes and Micah Alexander hauled in three passes for 85 yards and both TDs for the Wolves.
