FERRIS — The Whitewright Tigers opened their 2017 season with a 47-14 loss against Bremond at Yellowjacket Stadium on Thursday night.

Bremond, the defending Class 2A Division II state champion, has now won 48 consecutive games. Bremond held a 14-0 lead eight minutes into the game before Whitewright, in Mason Edwards first game as head coach, got on the board with a touchdown pass.

Bremond then took a 21-7 half-time lead and extended the advantage to 34-7 by the end of the third quarter.

Bremond tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter before Whitewright, which hosts Blue Ridge on September 8, scored its second touchdown in the final minutes.
