DURANT — Heading into the 2017-18 season the Southeastern Oklahoma State men’s golf team has been picked to finish fifth according to the Great American Conference preseason poll.

The Savage Storm garnered 42 points and topped a sixth-place tie between Southern Nazarene and Southern Arkansas by eight points.

Arkansas Tech enters the season as the favorite with 77 points and five first-place votes, with Henderson State right behind with 72 points and four first-place votes.

Southwestern Oklahoma State earned the final first-place vote and 64 points, followed by Harding in fourth with 58 points.

The Storm return regional qualifier and Pottsboro native Hayden Foster from last season, when he posted a top-20 finish at the Central/Midwest Super Regional which came on the heels of a third-place individual finish at the GAC Championship.

The Storm also looks forward to the return of Whitesboro native Zach James, who saw his season come to an early end a year ago with an injury after two seasons which were both in the program’s all-time top five for scoring average.

Southeastern finished seventh in the conference championship a year ago and saw a four-year streak of qualifying for regionals as a team snapped.

The Storm will open the season Sept. 11-12 when it travels to Oklahoma City for the GAC Preview.
