WHITESBORO — The Sherman Lady Cats defeated Denison, 25-22, 25-16, Saturday to claim the championship at the Whitesboro Invitational.

Sherman’s Madi Gladen was named tournament MVP with Cameron Wecker earning a spot on the all-tournament team.

Sherman (20-4) advanced through Saturday’s bracket by defeating Denton Calvary, 25-9, 25-13, in the quarterfinals and Lindsay, 25-14, 25-20, in the semifinals.

For the tournament, Gladen recorded 30 kills and 22 digs. Rylie Bernard added 23 kills and nine aces, while Sarah Graham had 12 kills and seven blocks. Dallas Aleman finished with 86 assists and 16 digs and Wecker recorded 33 digs.

On Friday, Sherman defeated Paris 25-11, 25-14, 25-20 in non-district action.

Gladen had 12 kills and three aces to lead the Lady Cats. Bernard added seven kills, while Alexis Jackman had five kills and two blocks and Graham had four kills and two blocks. Aleman had 32 assists and 12 digs, while Wecker had 18 digs.

Kiara Scott led Denison with 10 kills and nine digs in the championship match while Taylor Greenameyer added four kills, three blocks and six digs, Drew Hayes put down four kills, Courtney Gillespie handed out 16 assists and Taylor Dawes collected seven digs.

The Lady Jackets advanced to the final with a 25-10, 25-22 victory against Princeton. Scott had 11 kills, three aces and three digs, Greenameyer added seven kills and five digs and Gillespie handed out 19 assists

Denison started the day with a 25-10, 25-13 victory against Whitesboro. Scott and Greenameyer each had seven kills, Kenli Powell added three kills, Gillespie finished with 16 assists.

In non-district action at Van Alstyne on Friday, Denison earned a 25-15, 25-13, 25-19 victory. Scott had 17 kills and six digs, Greenameyer added 10 kills, 14 digs and four blocks, Powell and Hayes each put down four kills, Gillespie handed out 25 assists and Dawes collected 13 digs for the Lady Jackets, who host McKinney North at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Fifth-place match

Whitesboro def. Anna 2-1

WHITESBORO — Phoenix West had eight kills, 10 digs and six aces as Whitesboro defeated Anna, 25-15, 21-25, 25-18, to claim fifth place at its tournament on Saturday.

Qyra Ressler added five kills and 13 digs, Karlee Schuessler totaled four kills, 10 assists and five digs and Maggie McCorkle chipped in seven assists, six digs and three kills for the Lady Bearcats.

West totaled five kills, four aces and three digs, McCorkle chipped in four kills, six assists and four digs and Schuessler had 11 assists and nine digs in a 25-13, 25-19 win against Bonham.

Whitesboro opened the day with a 25-10, 25-14 quarterfinal loss against Denison. West collected 10 digs and Schuessler handed out six assists.

Challengers Bracket

Third-place match

Tom Bean def. Collinsville 2-0

WHITESBORO — Baylee Stautzenberger had 14 kills as Tom Bean earned third place in the Challengers Bracket of the Whitesboro Tournament with a sweep of Collinsville on Saturday.

Jill Beck totaled 10 assists, four digs and three aces and Jewell Mason added four aces and four digs for Tom Bean (10-6).

Stautzenberger had five kills, two blocks and 12 digs in a 25-21, 25-22 loss against Tioga. Beck added four kills, four digs, three aces and seven assists and Taylor Whitehurst chipped in six digs.

The Lady Tomcats started the day with a 25-23, 26-24, victory against Pottsboro. Beck had six kills, nine assists and five digs, Cheyanne Worley added four kills and five digs, Stautzenberger totaled three kills, four aces, eight digs and two assists and Whitehurst collected nine digs.

In non-district action on Friday, Tom Bean earned a 25-12, 25-20, 25-11 home victory against Poolville. Beck had six assists, four kills and six digs, Stautzenberger added four aces, four kills and eight digs, Worley chipped in four kills and four aces, Lauren Getts finished with four kills and three aces and Mason collected five digs for Tom Bean.


Pottsboro def. Bells 3-1

POTTSBORO — Pyper James had nine kills as Pottsboro defeated Bells, 25-23, 19-25, 25-16, 26-24, in non-district action on Friday.

Riley Westervelt added seven kills and six digs, Alex Massie handed out 18 assists, Annie Adlof collected 11 digs, Hannah Fellinger chipped in five kills and Kendall Sluder finished with four kills and five assists for the Lady Cardinals.

Dodd City def. North Hopkins 3-0

DODD CITY — Sarah Brent had seven kills as Dodd City swept North Hopkins, 26-24, 25-17, 25-21, in non-district action on Friday.

Journie Hilliard and Cassandra Woodlee each put down five kills, Abby Weeks totaled 17 assists, two kills and two blocks and Delaney Pilliod, Madelyn Underwood and Dani Baccus all added three digs apiece for Dodd City (12-6).

Krum def. Gunter 3-0

KRUM — Camryn MacDonald had eight kills, seven digs and five aces for Gunter but Krum defeated the Lady Tigers, 25-20, 25-23, 25-16, in non-district action on Friday.

Beth Gilbreath added five kills, Sarah Franze collected 13 digs and Jacee Childers totaled 16 assists and four digs for Gunter (11-5).
