DURANT — The Southeastern Oklahoma State volleyball was picked to finish seventh in the Great American Conference preseason poll released on Thursday.


The Savage Storm closed out 2016 with a 15-17 record overall and a 6-10 mark in GAC play, but put together a stunning postseason run that included the first-ever upset of a number one seed in the tournament by an eight seed before reaching the tournament finals.


SE garnered 62 points in the poll and is 12 points behind Southwestern Oklahoma State while holding a six point lead over Arkansas-Monticello in eighth.


Harding is the preseason favorite with 113 points and seven first-place votes, followed by Ouachita Baptist with 105 points and three first-place nods.


Arkansas Tech is third with 95 points and two first-place votes.


Oklahoma Baptist is fourth in the poll with 90 points followed by Southern Nazarene in fifth at 77.


Southeastern opens the season by hosting the South Central Classic, opening play at 2 p.m. on Sept. 1 against Minnesota-Crookston in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
