SULPHUR SPRINGS — The Sherman Lady Bearcats opened the season with a pair of victories, sweeping North Lamar, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21, and topping host Sulphur Springs, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 21-25, 15-9, on Tuesday night.


In the win against North Lamar, Dallas Aleman handed out 24 assists, Madi Gladen finished with nine kills and two aces, Sarah Graham chipped in seven kills and four aces and Cameron Wecker collected 24 digs.


Gladen finished with 15 kills against Sulphur Springs while Rylie Bernard totaled seven kills and three aces, Wecker collected 35 digs and Aleman handed out 28 assists for Sherman (2-0), which will begin play in the Princeton Tournament on Thursday.


Gunter def. Howe 3-0


HOWE — Camryn MacDonald had 15 kills, 10 digs, five aces and two blocks as Gunter opened the season with a 25, 23, 25-12, 25-17 win against Howe.


Jacee Childers handed out 27 assists to go with five digs, Nyah Ingram collected 11 digs, Beth Gilbreath finished with nine kills and two blocks, Sarah Franze totaled nine digs and three kills and Kinzee Hamilton chipped in three aces and three digs for Gunter.


Dodd City def. Yantis 3-0


YANTIS — Sarah Brent had eight kills and three digs as Dodd City opened the season with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-16 victory against Yantis on Tuesday.


Abby Weeks handed out 22 assists to go with four kills, 4 kills, Journie Hilliard put down seven kills, Delaney Pilliod chipped in three aces and Cassandra Woodlee finished with four kills for Dodd City.


Callisburg def. Aubrey 3-0


AUBREY — The Callisburg Lady Wildcats opened the season with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-25 victory against Aubrey on Tuesday night.


Callisburg, a 3A state semifinalist last season, will compete in the Nike ASC Classic starting on Thursday.


Tioga def. Bells 3-0


BELLS — Hali Williams handed out 10 assists during Bells’ season-opening loss against defending Class 1A champion Tioga, 25-13, 25-16, 25-12, on Tuesday night.


Charli Waggoner had three kills, Dezeray Poe finished with two kills and Cheyenne Floyd chipped in three assists for Bells.


Whitewright def. Blue Ridge 3-2


BLUE RIDGE — Juliann Kelley put down eight aces as Whitewright started the season with a 16-25, 19-25, 25-9, 25-20, 15-9 victory against Blue Ridge.


Whitewright will compete in the Chisum Tournament starting on Friday.


Melissa def. Leonard 3-0


LEONARD — The Melissa Lady Cardinals earned a 25-15, 25-22, 25-19 victory against Leonard on Tuesday night.


Melissa opened the season with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-13 home victory against Ponder on Monday night.


Trenton earns a split


SADLER — The Trenton Lady Tigers opened their season with a split during a tri-match at S&S on Tuesday night, opening with a 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 15-12 victory before S&S topped the Lady Tigers, 22-25, 12-25, 25-16, 22-25.


Maddison Lavoie totaled 17 kills and 17 digs, Gabby Edwards finished with 14 kills and 13 digs, Bethany Nors contributed 16 assists and nine digs and Gracie Holden had 10 kills, 10 assists and six aces on the night.
