Nearly two dozen area baseball players earned all-state honors for the 2017 season by the Texas Association of Sports Writers.


Class 3A state semifinalist Whitesboro led the way as senior Cayden Cobb was a first-team all-state selection as a pitcher and third-team all-state at first base while junior outfielder Weston Hickman was a second-team all-state choice and senior shortstop Dalton Vanlandingham and junior catcher Kade Brewer received honorable mention all-state accolades.


Also in 3A, Gunter junior Daylan Bower was named second-team all-state at first base while senior catcher Bryson Jolly, senior shortstop Bo Whitteker, junior outfielder Matt Hunter and junior third baseman Zach Lowe were honorable mention all-state.


Howe senior outfielder Brennan Ross and Pottsboro junior shortstop Hunter Watson were also honorable mention all-state picks.


In Class 1A, Tioga senior second baseman Will Koberick was named first-team all-state and senior outfielder Travis Price was named second-team all-state.


Dodd City senior pitcher Baylee Graves and Savoy sophomore outfielder Devin Smith were picked second-team all state.


Melissa junior first baseman Tate Whittington and Bonham senior second baseman Austin Simmerman were honorable mention selections in Class 4A.


In Class 2A, Sam Rayburn junior pitcher Riley Hall and junior catcher Seth Stephens as well as Bells junior first baseman Hunter Hawthorne and junior second baseman Stephen Hinds were honorable mention all-state.
