SAVOY — Former Saint Jo head volleyball coach Kristi Tallon has been hired for the same position at Class 1A Savoy.
“I have met a few of the girls and have seen them at open gym,” Tallon said. “We have some talent. We have a good group coming back.”
Her hiring filled the vacancy created by the departure of Savannah House after two years as head coach.
Tallon will also assist in 2018 with softball if Savoy fields a team — and track and field if not.
Tallon coached from 2012-2014 at and played volleyball during late 1990s for Saint Jo. Her time on staff there also included work as head girls track coach.
Savoy has reached the 1A area round the last two years, despite going winless in District 11-2A volleyball. The Lady Cardinals qualified for the playoffs each time as the district’s No. 3 seed to the 1A postseason.
In 2016, Savoy topped Irving Universal, 25-14, 25-17, 25-8, in the bi-district round and lost in the second round to Graford, 25-15, 25-20, 25-8.
Two years ago, the Lady Cardinals defeated Milford, 25-15, 25-16, 25-22, in bi-district action — marking Savoy’s first postseason appearance and playoff win since 2011. A loss to Bryson, 25-17, 25-7, 25-20, followed in the area round.
Savoy will remain in 11-2A this fall for volleyball with Bells, Blue Ridge, Dodd City, Roxton, Tom Bean, Trenton and Wolfe City.
