After two to nine inches of rainfall across the region over the past week, some area lakes and rivers are higher than normal. Be extra cautious of floating debris and/or submerged objects under the water’s surface….It’s time to start thinking about applying for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department drawn hunts for the 2017-18 season. TPWD indicates that once again, various types of hunts will be available this fall on lands that include U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service National Wildlife Refuges, some private lands, and many state wildlife management areas. Each entry will cost anywhere from $0 to $10 (Youth Only category entries are free) and the first application deadlines are Aug. 1. For information, call 800-792-1112 or visit the TPWD Web site at www.tpwd.texas.gov…The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) announced this week that Trevor Keeler of Atoka, Okla. won the recent drawing for a Colorado special deer license. “I can’t believe I won, I bought six tickets and my wife also bought six tickets” said Keeler in a MDF news release.
At Lake Texoma, water is lightly stained; water temps are 81–85 degrees; and the lake is 1.70-feet high. TPWD reports that black bass remain good on medium crankbaits, topwaters and weightless Flukes. Crappie are good on minnows and white jigs. Striped bass are good on slabs and topwaters. Catfish are good on trotlines….At Lake Bonham, water is stained; water temps are 81-85 degrees; and the lake is 2.70-feet low. TPWD reports that black bass continue to be good on topwater baits, shallow crankbaits, and Texas-rigged soft plastics fished around rocks and boat docks…At Lake Durant, ODWC reports normal elevation and clear conditions. Largemouth bass continue to be slow on crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, soft plastic baits and spinnerbaits fished around brushy structure, creek channels, the main lake and standing timber…At Lake Ray Roberts, water is lightly stained; water temps are 81-85 degrees; and the lake is 0.05-feet low. TPWD reports that black bass are fair on Texas-rigged plastic worms, Carolina-rigged creature baits and deep diving crankbaits…At Lake Fork, water is lightly stained; water temps are 82-86 degrees; and the lake is 0.04-feet low. TPWD says that black bass are fair on football jigs, hollow body frogs and Carolina-rigged worms and Flukes… At the Blue River near Tishomingo, ODWC reports above normal river levels, water temp of 70 degrees and murky conditions. Channel catfish are good on chicken liver, punch bait and stinkbait along shallows and slack water near the bank. All other fishing is slow due to high water conditions.
