Both at the plate and on the mound, Sherman senior David Bedgood showed why he is deserving of being named the Herald Democrat All-Texomaland Baseball Player of the Year for the 2017 season.

Bedgood was named Most Valuable Player of District 5-5A after he batted .410 on the year with five home runs — including an inside-the-park grand slam in a playoff-clinching win at Denton Braswell — and 28 runs batted in.

Bedgood finished with 43 hits and scored 36 runs as the Bearcats finished as 5-5A runner-up, ended a three-year playoff absence and pushed state runner-up Grapevine to three games in the area round.

On the mound, Bedgood was 8-2 on the year with a 1.76 earned run average and 49 strikeouts in 65 2/3 total innings of work.

Bedgood, who will play middle infield at the collegiate level, signed with Tulane University in November.
