AUSTIN — The Callisburg girls golf team is in second place after the first round of the Class 3A state tournament at Grey Rock Golf Course on Monday.


The Lady Wildcats shot a combined 367 and are 21 strokes behind three-time defending champ Sonora. Rockdale is third at 372.


Brenna Ballard led Callisburg with an 86 and is tied for ninth place, Morgan Parker shot a 91 and is tied for 17th, Lindsey Bullard shot 92 and is tied for 19th, Emma Wells is tied for 34th with a 98 and Tori Hawkins had a 104 and is tied for 47th.


The Howe Lady Bulldogs are in sixth place going into today’s final round with a 393. They are a shot behind Ingram Moore and 11 strokes behind fourth-place Comfort.


Charlsee Carter had a 91 and is tied for 17th, Meradith Ross shot a 93 and is 22nd, Peyton Groves carded a 104 and is tied for 47th, Anna Counts finished with a 105 and is tied for 50th and Molly Wilson is 54th after a 107.


Class 1A


The Tioga girls golf team sits in third place after the first day of the Class 1A state tournament at Lions Municipal Golf Course on Monday.


The Lady Bulldogs shot a combined 404 and are 12 strokes behind Utopia and 22 shots behind Blanket. Tioga is a stroke ahead of Iredell and two in front of Happy going into today’s final round.


Emily Adlof leads the way with a tie for 10th after carding a 94, Peyton Moore is tied for 15th with a 98, Demi Wilson is tied for 20th with a 100, Destini Maness is tied for 47th with a 111 and Brittany Barnett is tied for 53rd with a 117.
