BONHAM — Torrey Stubblefield doubled, drove in three runs and scattered five hits and struck out eight as the Howe Lady Bulldogs won Game 1 of a Class 3A Region II quarterfinal series against the Pottsboro Lady Cardinals on Thursday night.
Howe (20-7) will try to sweep the series tonight at 6 p.m. at Bonham. If Pottsboro (21-10) forces a deciding third game, it would immediately follow.
Emily Sanders was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored, Madisyn Hargrove doubled, drove in two runs and scored, Peyton Streetman scored twice and Erin Blackburn doubled and scored for Howe, which scored three times in the first and four times in the fourth.
Lauren Hicks doubled and scored, Kendall Rainey singled and drove in a run, Riley Westervelt singled and Hatty Shope singled and walked for Pottsboro.
Lone Oak 6, Pilot Point 1
McKINNEY — Mercedez Lane singled and drove in Pilot Point’s only run during a Class 3A Region II quarterfinal series-opening game against Lone Oak at McKinney Boyd on Thursday night.
Lone Oak (29-5) will try to sweep the series tonight at 7 p.m. at McKinney Boyd. If Pilot Point (30-2) forces a third game, it would be at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Jordan David was 2-for-3 with a double and Kenedee Gist scored for Pilot Point.
Lone Oak scored five runs during the second inning.
Class 4A Region II
Krum 3, Bonham 1 (8)
McKINNEY — Katie Jones’ home run in the bottom of the fifth forced extra innings for Bonham but Krum came away with a win in the series opener of a region quarterfinal match-up at McKinney High on Thursday night.
Krum (32-2) will try to sweep the series tonight at 7 p.m. at McKinney. If Bonham (28-9) forces a deciding game, it will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Krum scored in the top of the first but then was scoreless until Reagan Smith’s two-run double in the the eighth turned out to be the game-winner.
Class 1A Region II
Dodd City 9, Ector 7
WHITEWRIGHT — The Dodd City Lady Hornets opened their Class 1A Region II semifinal series with a victory against Ector on Thursday night.
Dodd City (7-11) will try for the sweep tonight at 7 p.m. at Whitewright. If Ector forces a deciding game, it will be at noon on Saturday.
