The Dodd City Hornets beat the Tioga Bulldogs, 13-4, in a Class 1A Region II quarterfinal match-up at Veterans Field in Sherman on Thursday night.
Dodd City (9-11) advances to the region semifinals and will face either Savoy or Vernon Northside next week.
Class 4A Region II
Decatur 10, Melissa 0 (6)
ARGYLE — Grayson Hurst had the only hit for Melissa as Decatur run-ruled the Cardinals in the series opener on their area round match-up on Thursday night.
Decatur (21-8) will try for the sweep tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Argyle. If Melissa (16-14) forces a deciding game, it will be at noon on Saturday.
Brady Morrison added a single for the Cardinals.
Decatur scored three times in the bottom of the first, four times in the fourth and then enacted the run-rule with three runs in the sixth.
Class 3A Region II
Gunter 6, Mineola 5 (9)
PARIS — Matt Hunter’s walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Zach Lowe and gave Gunter the Game 1 victory in a Class 3A Region II area round series against Mineola on Thursday night.
Gunter (28-6) will try for the sweep at noon on Saturday at Paris Chisum. If Mineola (18-9) forces a deciding game, it will immediately follow.
The Tigers had taken a 5-1 lead into the top of the fifth before Mineola tied the game.
Hunter also had an RBI single in the first and scored in the fifth when Daylan Bower was caught in a rundown.
Lowe had a bases-loaded walk in the fourth before Braiden Clopton’s RBI single and after Logan Nelson scored on a hit.
Edgewood 5, Pottsboro 2
PLANO — Hunter Watson was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, drove in a run and walked during Pottsboro’s series-opening loss against Edgewood in an area round match-up at Plano East on Thursday night.
Edgewood (23-8) will try to sweep the series tonight at 6 p.m. at Plano East. If Pottsboro (22-5) forces a deciding game, it would immediately follow.
Jake Williams singled, Jared Taylor drove in a run and Myles Mitchusson and Max Dodd scored for the Cardinals.
Edgewood scored four runs in the third inning.
Class 2A Region II
Lindsay 5, Trenton 0
RED OAK — The Trenton Tigers were eliminated from the playoffs in a shutout loss against Lindsay in a Class 2A Region II area round match-up on Thursday night.
Lindsay (23-6) will face either Sam Rayburn or Alvord in the region quarterfinals next week.
Justin Lambright had the only hit and Raul Caro walked twice for Trenton (20-7), which fell behind 2-0 after the first inning and was down 4-0 after five innings.
Muenster 9, Bells 3
ANNA — The Bells Panthers were eliminated from the playoffs after Muenster earned the victory in the Class 2A Region II area round match-up on Thursday night.
Muenster (26-2) will face either Windthorst or Blue Ridge in the region quarterfinals next week.
Bells finished the season at 18-8.
Windthorst 11, Blue Ridge 1
PONDER — Brody Wiggins’ home run tied the game early for Blue Ridge but Windthorst pulled away to win the opener of a Class 2A Region II series on Thursday night.
Windthorst (27-8) will try to sweep the series tonight at 5 p.m. at Ponder. If Blue Ridge (17-6) forces a deciding game, it will immediately follow.
Seth McCarley and Chaice Weatherford added singles and Nathan Campbell walked for Blue Ridge, which tied the game in the bottom of the third before Windthorst broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning.
