DALLAS — Jenna Jaska’s bases-clearing double highlighted an eight-run sixth inning as Texoma Christian beat Fort Worth Bethesda, 11-5, in a TAPPS Division IV region final match-up at the University of Texas-Dallas on Thursday night to earn a trip to the state tournament.
The Lady Eagles (12-0) will face Temple Central Christian in a state semifinal at 10 a.m. on May 12 at Concordia University in Austin. The state championship is at noon on May 13. It is the third state tournament appearance for TCS, all in the last five seasons, but first since 2014.
Maggie Fortenberry added a two-run double as the Lady Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the first but then trailed 4-3 going to the bottom of the sixth after Bethesda scored twice in the top of the inning.
Bailey Yale and Lexi Tan chipped in RBI doubles and Kamryn McNew capped the outburst with an RBI single.
Class 3A Region II
Pottsboro 11, Alba-Golden 1 (6)
COMMERCE — Payton Deaton was 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two RBI and three runs as Pottsboro run-ruled Alba-Golden in the opening game of a Class 3A Region II area round series at Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday night.
Pottsboro (20-9) will try to sweep the series at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning at A&M-Commerce. A third game, if necessary, would immediately follow.
Pyper James scattered five hits and two walks while allowing an unearned run and striking out nine and was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored three times, Haylee Hill doubled, drove in two runs and scored and Hatty Shope tripled, drove in a run and scored twice for the Lady Cardinals.
