The Austin College baseball team celebrated Senior Day with a pair of wins over Schreiner University to complete a series sweep over the Mountaineers, winning Game 1 9-1 before coming from behind for an 8-7 walk-off win in Game 2.
In Game 1 the ’Roos (12-22, 6-9) got a dominant pitching performance from Josh Lewis, and a four-run third inning blew things open. Gus Daniel got the scoring started with an RBI single, and Chance Hatchel brought home two more runs. Thomas Oberg’s RBI double completed the big inning and the ’Roos never looked back.
Austin College collected 17 hits, with Oberg going 3-for-4 and Hatchel 3-for-5. Daniel added a 2-for-4 game with three runs scored.
In the nightcap, Austin Dudley started the rally in the bottom of the ninth, and Brett Taff’s RBI single scored Oscar Gonzalez to make it a 7-6 game. With two outs and the bases full, Justin Alphonse roped a single down the line in left field, bringing Dudley and Taff around and giving the ‘Roos the victory.
