DENTON — Sherman took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but District 5-5A softball co-leader Denton Ryan came back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and went on to an 8-2 win over the Lady Bearcats on Wednesday night.

The Lady Cats (12-9, 2-2) dropped into a tie for third place with Denton in the district.

Freshman Kenna Ferguson had Sherman’s only hit of the night off Ryan starter Brianna Leeds, an RBI single that drove in Hailey Arndt in the first. In the top of the seventh, Jill Dixon added an RBI with a sacrifice fly that scored Jayla Goodman. Leeds struck out 11 and walked four in a complete-game one-hitter for Ryan (12-6, 3-0).

Sherman is off this weekend and will return to action next Tuesday evening with a non-district home game against Burkburnett.

District 13-2A

Bells 15, Dodd City 0 (3)

DODD CITY — C.J. Crane was 2-for-3 with a homer, five RBI and scored twice as first-place Bells run-ruled Dodd City in a district make-up game on Wednesday morning.

Bella Smith homered, drove in three runs and scored twice, Chesney Blount was 2-for-2, drove in a run and scored, Kylie Stubbs was 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored twice, Hali Williams was 2-for-4 and scored and Katie Branam scored three times for Bells (15-1, 4-0).

Lexi Herpeche singled and Anna Flaherty walked for Dodd City (1-4, 1-4).



District 9-3A

Gunter 4, Whitesboro 2

WHITESBORO — Bryson Jolly’s two-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh inning was the difference as Gunter scored three times in the seventh inning to rally past Whitesboro and gain sole possession of first place on Wednesday afternoon.

Bo Whitteker’s RBI single preceded the homer and scored Logan Nelson to tie the game. Braiden Clopton had two hits and scored on Jolly’s first-inning single while Trey Carr struck out six and walked one to get the win for Gunter (15-4, 3-0).

Cody Robinson was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored, Noah Griesen was 2-for-3, Weston Hickman tripled and scored and Kade Brewer drove in a run for Whitesboro (8-4, 1-1).

S&S 9, Callisburg 3

CALLISBURG — Jacob Miller doubled, drove in three runs and scored twice as S&S defeated Callisburg in district action on Wednesday afternoon.

Blake Jack was 2-for-3 and scored twice, Walt Trinklein was 2-for-4 and drove in a run, Ace Everett singled, drove in a run and scored twice and Dillon Reaves and Manuel Duarte drove in runs for S&S (4-9, 1-2).

Ian Enderby was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in a run for Callisburg (3-7, 1-2).


Sam Rayburn 9, North Hopkins 3

BIRTHRIGHT — Kade Smith homered and drove in three runs as Sam Rayburn beat North Hopkins in non-district action on Wednesday afternoon.

Luke Titsworth homered and drove in two runs, Casey Payne and Seth Stephens both singled and scored twice, Carson Clark drove in a run and allowed three hits to get the win and Dax Stewart singled and scored for Sam Rayburn (6-4-2).
