Don and Martha Schmidt of Denison were honored Oct. 19 with a 70th wedding anniversary reception. The celebration was held at Parkside Baptist Church in Denison. Hosts were Don Jr. and Ginny Schmidt, the couple’s son and daughter-in-law of Rowlett, Cyndy and Christian Carr, the couple’s granddaughter and her husband of Southlake, and Jack and Nancy Howard.

Hosts were Don Jr. and Ginny Schmidt, the couple’s son and daughter-in-law of Rowlett, Cyndy and Christian Carr, the couple’s granddaughter and her husband of Southlake, and Jack and Nancy Howard.


The Schmidts were married Oct. 22, 1943 at the Ervay Street Baptist Church in Dallas. Attendants were the couple’s parents.


Martha Schmidt was born in Dallas, the daughter of Dewey and Dellie Kennedy. She attended Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, worked as a seamstress at Nardis of Dallas and has been retired for many years.


Don Schmidt was born in Dallas, the son of Carl "Fritz" and CarrieLee Schmidt. He attended Forest Avenue High School in Dallas as retired from Southwestern Bell in Dallas where he worked as a network manager.


The couple are members of Parkside Baptist Church in Denison where they are active in the Pacesetters senior group and in the church’s senior adults department. They enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing games, fishing and the sharing/giving of themselves to others.


The Schmidts have one son, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
