SEGUIN — Brent Peavy threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns as Texas Lutheran defeated Austin College, 45-12, in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
It was the first conference loss for Austin College (1-5, 0-1) while Texas Lutheran (4-0, 1-0) remained undefeated on the season.
Texas Lutheran got on the board early with a 66-yard touchdown pass from Peavy to his brother, Cameron, but Austin College got a field goal from Andrew Klink to make it 7-3 with 5:31 left in the first quarter.
TLU scored once more in the first quarter on a five-yard pass from Peavy to Deion Barnes to take a 14-3 lead but early in the second quarter Noah Jesko dived in from a yard out to make it 14-9 after Klink’s point after attempt was blocked.
The Bulldogs lead grew to 28-9 after a pair of short touchdown runs from Marquis Barrolle and A.J. Saucedo
A season-best 44-yard field goal from Klink was answered on a Peavy brother TD pass and catch for 17 yards with 46 seconds left in the quarter that sent Austin College into the locker room trailing, 35-12, at the half.
Austin College was unable to produce much offensively in the second half while Texas Lutheran added touchdown pass from Trenton White and a field goal.
Jesko completed 22-of-46 passes for 242 yards and added a rushing touchdown while James Nwankpah led the AC rushing attack with 76 yards on 23 carries.
Cooper Woodyard caught four passes for 70 yards to lead the Austin College receivers. Brooks Ward made eight tackles, including two for loss to lead the defense.
Austin College hosts Southwestern Assemblies of God at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Apple Stadium.
