The Austin College men’s soccer team played No. 14-ranked Trinity University tough but the Tigers used two second half goals to open things up and hand the ‘Roos a 3-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.


Austin College falls to 3-8-3 overall and 3-6-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the loss.


Austin College used a strong defensive effort to keep the Tigers off the board early, as the game was scoreless until Trinity’s Todd Edwards scored in the 32nd minute to make it 1-0 heading into halftime. Trinity had 12 corner kicks in the opening half but the ‘Roos were able to turn them away on each.


In the second half, the Tigers went up 2-0 on a goal from Jonny Lawson in the 56th minute, but Celio came up with a big stop on a penalty kick to keep it a two-goal margin. However, Trinity got a third goal in the 69th minute.


Trinity held a 23-5 shot advantage as Celio finished the game making eight saves.
