DENISON — Rev. Alonzo McLean is the new pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Denison.

Born at Perrin Air Force Base in 1959, McLean’s father was a career military man. The family lived all over the world. But, no matter where they were stationed, his mother took them to church and instilled in them the importance of building a lasting relationship with God.

Rev. McLean is a 1977 graduate of Victory Valley High School in California and also graduated from D. Edwinn Johnson Bible Institute. He accepted his call to the ministry in 1989 at Progressive Baptist Church in Sherman, where in later years, he was licensed and ordained. He has served as pastor of Progressive and New Beginnings churches.

He was married to the late Lillian Estes Jones of Sherman. Rev. McLean served as Mt. Zion’s associate pastor before Rev. King resigned. After his departure, McLean assumed all the duties and responsibilities as pastor until his appointment in September of this year. Rev. McLean’s installation service is tentatively set for the first Sunday in November.
