A free preview of music from Strays, The Musical will be performed Oct. 27 from 7 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sherman. The play is being written by local playwrights and co-authors Amy Shojai and Frank Steele.

Strays, The Musical explores furry foibles from the pets’ point of view. Actors give voice to a variety of cat and dog characters in this comedy/drama. The story also works to entertain as well as educate audiences about normal pet behavior. It also celebrates the bond people and their pets share.

Passionate animal advocates, Shojai and Steele wrote the play especially with pet lovers in mind.

"We hope the completed show will benefit animal welfare organizations in their fund raising efforts, as well as entertain pet lovers," says Shojai and Steele.

The cast for the preview performances include Steele and Shojai, along with Theresa Littlefield, Gil Nelson and SuEllen Davis. The music includes solos, duets and full company numbers in styles ranging from pop rock to blues, calypso, gospel and Celtic. The 30-minute performance is accompanied by recorded full orchestral arrangeme

"The performance is a preview only, intended to offer a taste of what to expect from the full two-hour show," says Shojai. "We’re looking for feedback from the audience after the performance. That helps fine tune the future show."

For the full show in the future, Steele and Shojai will hold open auditions for persons of all ages, singers and non-singers.

The preview will also be featured on Nov. 1 at the annual Cat Writers Association Conference in Dallas. For information on the Dallas performance, go to www.catwriters.com.
