The former MKT Railroad employees will meet at noon on Oct. 29 at Grandy’s Restaurant in Sherman. The meal will be Dutch treat.
All railroaders and their spouses are encouraged to attend.
The next Youth First program at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge will be from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 2. The event offers age-appropriate nature games, crafts and more for two separate age groups — ages 4 to 7 and ages 8 to 12.
Youth First is free and open to the public. However, early registration is requested in order to have sufficient materials for the children. Parents must accompany children ages 4 to 7. Registration can be made online at www.friendsofhagerman.com/Youth or by calling the refuge at 903-786-2826.
The refuge is located at 6465 Refuge Road in Sherman on the Big Mineral arm of Lake Texoma.
HOWE — The 42nd annual Handwork from the Heart bazaar at the First United Methodist Church of Howe will be Nov. 1 and 2 at the church, 810 North Denny. Hours will be 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Nov. 2.
The bazaar features handmade items that the women of the church have worked on all year long. These include crafts of all kinds, from hair bows to wooden Christmas trees, along with quilted, crocheted, embroidered and knitted items, homemade bread, baked goods and a prize quilt.
Turkey dinner/bake sale
The St. Patrick Catholic Church annual turkey dinner and bake sale is set for Nov. 3 at the St. Xavier Center, corner of Rusk and Sears Streets in Denison. Proceeds from the meal will go towards restoration of the church and money raised from the bake sale will go to the church’s youth group.
The meal of roasted turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, drinks and desserts will be available for $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 to 12. Dine-in will be available from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and take-out orders will be available starting at 10:30 a.m.
A "Wag-a-Thon" benefiting the Sherman Animal Shelter will be held Nov. 9 at Trinity Baptist Church in Sherman.
Activities will include an agility course race and a retriever timed race, competitions on the ugliest, cutest, biggest and smallest dogs, best trick, most obedient, best dressed, and owner/dog look-alike. Registration and doggy bag pick up begins at 9:15 a.m. The schedule of events is as follows: 9:45 a.m., agility course race; 10:30 a.m., ugliest/cutest dog; 11 a.m., biggest/smallest dog; 11:30 a.m., retriever timed race; noon, best trick; 12:30 p.m., most obedient; 1 p.m., best dressed; and 1:30 p.m., owner/dog look-alike.
In addition to the canine contest, the Texoma Regional Blood Center will be having a blood drive, there will be a cake walk, and a concession stand will be available.

Dinner theatre/art auction
TRENTON — Trenton High School will host a dinner theatre and silent art auction on Nov. 16 in the fine arts gym at Trenton Middle School.
Dinner will be served from 5:45 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. and include ham, baked potato, green beans, roll, dessert and a drink. Artwork provided by Trenton students will be available for viewing and bidding during the dinner. After dinner, a raffle winner of the "best seat in the house" prize will be announced, silent auction winners will be named, and a musical performance will begin. The evening will finish with the THS theatre department performing "A Christmas Carol."
Admission will be $10 for adults and students in sixth through 12th grades. The cost for children in fifth grade and younger will be $5.
