WHITEWRIGHT — Solomon Titus rushed for 242 yards on 16 carries and scored four times to lead Leonard to a 63-24 victory over Whitewright in the District 7-2A (II) opener on Friday night.


Ryan Nixon added three touchdowns and threw a TD pass to Ty McKinney for Leonard (5-1, 1-0).


Whitewright (0-6, 0-1) opened the scoring with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Jefferson Ballard to Austin Powell.


Leonard countered when Nixon completed a 53-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run.


Whitewright continued the aerial attack when Ballard competed a 61-yard pass to Leonard 10. But the drive stalled and Joseph Taylor kicked a 25-yard field goal.


On the next series Titus ran 40 yards to the 17. Two plays later Nixon scored from seven yards out. Justin Bennett connected with McKinney for the two-point conversion.


Titus extended the Leonard lead to 22-10 on a 64-yard run at the end of the first period.


Leonard next drove 53 yards with Nixon completing a 10-yard touchdown strike to McKinney.


Right before intermission Blake Henderson was on the receiving end of a 60-yard pass from Ballard, who finished with 246 yards through the air, that helped set up a four-yard TD pass to Powell. Lee Mata ran for the two point conversion and Whitewright cut the deficit to 29-18.


Leonard’s next two scores came on a Nixon 70-yard kickoff return to open the third quarter and a Titus 45-yard punt return.


Whitewright recovered a fumble at the Leonard 11 and two plays later Ballard scored on a 12-yard scamper.


Titus returned the ensuing kickoff to the Whitewright 25 and on the following play he sprinted in for a 25-yard touchdown.


Leonard completed the scoring on Nixon and Titus’ runs of 15 and 3 yards respectively.
