SHERMAN — Harmony Missionary Baptist Church will observe its 142nd Anniversary at 3:30 p.m. this Sunday. Everyone is invited to join the celebration. Area churches have also been invited.

Rev. Curtis Pruitt of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Ladonia will be bringing a message based on the theme "I Have a Plan for You," based on Jer. 29:11-13.

Rev. Clifton Eaton was called as Harmony’s pastor in June 1995. Under his leadership, the church started a food pantry which has become a distribution center for the North Texas Food Bank. The church also began a Mother’s Day-Out Ministry which has grown into a day care center, with a capacity of 65 children. With the addition of two portable buildings, the center has an expanded capacity of 100 children.

Rev. Eaton has taken a mission trip to Liberia in West Africa every year since 2004. While there, conferences are held in which pastors, evangelists and other church workers are trained to take the gospel back to their villages. Economic empowerment projects have also been implemented including a goat rearing project, a soap manufacturing project which started in the Bible School and expanded into four churches, and two pepper planting projects. In 2009 a Dodge van , including bicycles, books, clothing and medicine, was shipped, at a cost of just under $10,000. Last year they helped build a well and this year they will be sending a truck full of supplies.

Harmony’s church services are broadcast on Channel 96 at 7 a.m. Sundays and 5 p.m. Thursdays.

The church is located at 2111 E. Tuck St. in Sherman. For more information or directions to the church, call or text Alicia Searfoss, church secretary, at 972-816-5405.
