WHITESBORO — Whitesboro police arrested the driver who allegedly struck a road worker on North Union Street Thursday.

Whitesboro Police Chief Scott Taylor said the driver "disregarded a flagman in a construction area and struck a DOT (Department of Transportation) contractor." Taylor said the worker was flown to Parkland Hospital with non-life threatening, but serious, injuries.

The accident happened in the 300 block of North Union Street around 6 p.m. The driver was arrested for intoxicated assault and tampering with physical evidence, Taylor said.

He said the responding officer smelled alcohol on the driver, who, Taylor said, tried to hide evidence that he had been drinking before officers arrived. Taylor said results from a blood sample taken from the driver have not come back yet.
