SHERMAN — First United Methodist Church of Sherman will host an organ recital, featuring Bob Bidewell, at 4 p.m. Sunday as part of a new Recital Series.

SHERMAN — First United Methodist Church of Sherman will host an organ recital, featuring Bob Bidewell, at 4 p.m. Sunday as part of a new Recital Series.


Bidewell will perform works of J.S. Bach, John Leavitt, Sir William Walton, Anna Laura Page and others on the newly renovated three-manual Lyon-Healey-Wicks-Range organ. This organ contains more than 2000 pipes, 42 pipe ranks and 11 Walker digital ranks.


Bidewell, who recently retired as organist at St. Paul UMC in Little Rock Ark., obtained a Master of Music Education degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He studied piano with Dr. James Patty and Dr. Theron Waddle and has studied organ under Dr. Ervin Dunham, Harriet O’Neal and Dr. Jane Gamble. He has obtained the Service Playing Certificate from the American Guild of Organists and has presented recitals in Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri. He plays bass clarinet and keyboard in the Little Rock Wind Symphony and serves as librarian.


The recital is free and open to the public.
