The North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church announces the merger of two area churches — St. James UMC in Sherman and Haven Chapel UMC in Denison. The combined resources and membership will continue to meet in the Denison location, 500 W. Walker St. beginning Sunday, April 6, under the leadership of Rev. Commie O. Linson, pastor. The ministry will continue in the community through the merger.

"The time has come for the St. James congregation of Christ’s holy Church, under God’s leadership for 144 years, to take leave of their building."


The final worship service will be held in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. this Sunday. Rev. Linson will deliver the preached word and Dr. Marvin Guier, District Superintendent of the Northwest District of the North Texas Conference, will deliver the Declaration of Deconsecration and Merger.
