SHERMAN — Friendship United Methodist Church will hold their annual "Cantata" this Sunday morning rather than their traditional service.


The cantata will be followed by a church-wide Christmas party with snacks and favorite desserts and finger foods. The party is an enactment of the "Chinese Christmas party". All gifts should be $10 or less in price. For the children: Make sure that each boy brings a boy’s gift and each girl brings a girl’s gift, because they will be matched accordingly.


A "Blue Christmas Service" will be held from 6-7 p.m. Monday in the sanctuary. Christmas is not always a joyous time for everyone. Sometimes, because of a loss we have experienced, it is the hardest time of the year. This special service will be a way to acknowledge together our sadness and grief and claim God’s ability to bring good even out of loss, death and despair. This service is open to anyone who is able and willing to join them. It is not strictly a Methodist service.


The annual Christmas Eve Service will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and will end with everyone leaving the service by candlelight, and in silence.


Grand Ave. Presbyterian


SHERMAN — Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church will enjoy a service of Lessons and Carols at 11:30 a.m. this Sunday as the story of Jesus’ birth is celebrated. Advent candles will be lit on the wreath and some favorite hymns of Christmas will be sung. Members of the congregation will read the lessons that lead up to the 12 days of Christmas. The Christmas Joy Offering will be received in support of servants of the Church and Racial Ethic Colleges and Schools. Church School begins at 10:30 a.m.


Grand Avenue will host its second to the last Sunday for the Alternative Gift Market this Sunday. These gifts inspire support for humanitarian and environmental causes in the US and around the world. This year’s alternative gifts include wheelchairs, honeybees, trees, educational scholarships and clean water. The market will open at 10:30 a.m Sunday.


On Christmas Eve, they will join members and friends from Covenant Presbyterian Church for a festive service at 6 p.m. at Wynne Chapel on the Austin College campus. Rev. Neill Morgan will be preaching. Dr. John Williams and Dr. Lander Bethel will provide the leadership for the service, which will include communion, concluding with "Silent Night," by candlelight.
