Jones was born in Clinton, Okla. to Calvin and Carolyn Jones. His father was a Navy man, so he grew up as a military child. He graduated from O.D. He was employed by MEMC until it closed in 2012. He is currently employed by Globitech Inc.

Derrick Jones gave his life to Christ at age 21. He and his family have been members of New Birth Cathedral of Praise since the early ’90s. He has served as a member of the finance committee, and has taught in both Sunday School and Youth For Christ. In 2003, he was ordained as a deacon.
