We need to pick our elected officials carefully. When you’re hired, you can be fired, but when you’re elected, you can toss your feet on your desk, draw an enviable paycheck and I don’t think you can be fired. All you gotta do is be pretentious and speak well in front of the cameras.

What we really need are people who will act independently of their respective parties, have the temerity and courage to not obfuscate and acquiesce when critical decisions of government are needed, to not yield to their own political excelsior, but act with a certain, well-defined fidelity to us, the people.

Elect those who will remember us, their friends and neighbors, not whimper and grovel at the throne of national politics.
