In 2017, an estimated 252,710 people were diagnosed with breast cancer; 40,610 died from the disease. Around 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetimes, so if it’s a direct diagnosis or one of a friend or family member, breast cancer touches all of our lives.

We want to do something about it. That’s why we’ll be returning with our Paint it Pink edition on Oct. 21. You’ll likely remember this as the edition where the actual paper we print on is pink. But it’s so much more than that.

A portion of the proceeds from that edition will benefit both the local charity Women Rock! — which provides assistance and resources to area survives — and the American Cancer Society — which funnels money toward research and education.

This edition will also be full of local stories from survivors, information about care and area resources, a look at what’s going on in the world of research and an examination of how the availability of care in Texoma affects those with the disease.

We’re excited to again be a part of this effort to raise awareness and funds for this disease that affects all of our lives. It may seem cliche but a cure for cancer is obtainable if we all work together.

Look for the Paint it Pink edition on Oct. 21 and please help us support Women Rock! and the ACS.
