The 2017 Herald Democrat All-Texomaland Banquet on June 29 is going to be, by far, the largest we’ve held in the five years since we started hosting a special event to honor all of our top high school student-athletes.

So large, in fact, that the law of supply and demand has grabbed us by the scruff of the neck. Seating capacity is very tight, so I hope to explain why tickets are being limited to one parent at first availability.

In order to honor as many student-athletes as possible, we’ve expanded the invitation list to include other sports, which we hadn’t recognized before, and the Texoma Event Center at the Hilton Garden Inn is the largest event venue in Grayson County.

The problem is, even with the size of the venue, the demand for tickets has far exceeded our expectations, with popular Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee tapped as speaker. We will be evaluating other options for next year’s event and will be looking for attendees feedback following the event.

So as a result of this limitation, we’ve had to keep each invitation — initially — to one honoree and a paid ticket for a single guest. After the deadline to RSVP, the opportunity may exist for additional tickets to be purchased as long as they remain available. As you purchase your first ticket and register your student-athlete, be on the lookout for the option to be added to a waiting list for additional tickets, should they be available.

Some invitations have already been delivered, and the rest will be handed out this week. Each envelope will include information on how to sign up online and a web address and code for athletes to use during the ticketing process.

I just want to assure family members of honorees that we’re not trying to exclude anyone from coming. We just want to ensure that as many Texomaland athletes as possible are recognized for their accomplishments.
