United Way is midway through its yearly campaign and Thursday afternoon volunteers and campaign workers joined United Way staffers for a lunch and some good news.

Sherman Mayor Cary Wacker, who co-chairs this year’s campaign with Denison Mayor Jared Johnson, said she is excited about the progress made so far. United Way of Grayson County President David Cortinas said the campaign has come a long way, but there are miles left to go.

With that said, however, he announced that the campaign has raised $1,101,529. He asked area companies and small businesses who are still working on their individual campaigns to keep up the effort and reminded everyone present that the money raised supports area organizations that provide 33 programs.
