Starr Stanley, Republican candidate for Grayson County Treasure was born in San Bernardino, Calif. Before she turned 1, Her family moved to a home near Whitewright, where her grandfather and his parents lived since the 1930s. She graduated from Whitewright High School. She then graduated from Grayson College with an Associate of Business Administration in computer science. From there, she completed her education at East Texas State University, now known as Texas A&M-Commerce, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting.

She then graduated from Grayson College with an Associate of Business Administration in computer science. From there, she completed her education at East Texas State University, now known as Texas A&M-Commerce, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting.


She met her husband while attending GC. They married two years later and began their married life in Sherman. "We moved to Howe, where we have lived for the past 18 years," Stanley said in a prepared statement. "We have three grown kids, Cassie, Sean and Rebecca, and four grandchildren, Jordan, Madison, Alexis and Audrey.


"I have worked in the accounting field since graduating from college. I began as accounts receivable/accounts payable/cashier/warranty clerk for a local car dealer. After, three years, I changed industries to work as administrative assistant to the (vice president) for a steel carport company in Sherman," she said.


While at that position, Stanley prepared bids, reviewed all contracts, submitted permit applications to various cities, shipped materials, scheduled all phases of construction installation, and approved subcontractors payments. After leaving the carport company, Stanley worked for the next five years as an office manager, processing payroll, payroll tax deposits, federal payroll reports, sales tax reports, inventory reconciliation, warranty claims and bank reconciliations. "The last seven years, I have worked for the Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office, directly serving the taxpayers of Grayson County," Stanley said.


She said for the past 20 years she has served her local area in several ways such as: Cub Scout committee chairman, band booster club president, ag booster member, and Girl Scout leader. "For the past 5 years, I have helped to organized events for the city of Howe, such as Founders Day, July 4th Celebration and Texoma Night Out. I am currently serving as treasurer for the Keep Howe Beautiful Board."


As a member of the Church of Christ, Stanley has served as camp counselor/chaperon for the youth at La Prada Drive Church of Christ in Mesquite.


"My husband Jeff, daughter Rebecca and I are members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, and help minister to those that are in spiritual need. Jeff and I are the youth leaders. I also serve as the secretary, webmaster and newsletter editor. We are also members of the Patriot Guard Riders," Stanley said.


Three years ago, Stanley became a member of the John Abston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. "The last two years, I have served on the American Indian Committee. This committee introduces the chapter to Native American culture and customs."
