Last month, Jefferson Elementary staff invited parents of bilingual students to a curriculum event, and nearly 100 people attended the event to learn more about their students’ education and how they could provide support at home.

At the event, held in Jefferson’s gym, adults rotated through three learning stations that detailed curriculum for students in the bilingual program.

"The Jefferson teachers and staff delivered a well-rounded program that focused on the integral parts of learning, particularly those areas that parents can easily support at home," said Dr. Tyson Bennett, SISD Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability. "There’s a reason why Jefferson’ Bilingual Team won the SISD Team of the Month Award, and that the children in their program are performing at high levels."

Strong support at home from parents and family members coupled with the dedication and expertise of staff will help students reach their full potential. The parents were engaged, seemed to respond well to the information, and showed appreciation for the chance to learn more and get involved.

"I really appreciate our teachers and staff going the extra mile to support our students and to continue to make the school and each student’s home a complete team," said Jefferson Principal Amy Porter.
