Firefighters responded Monday to a structure fire in the 1300 block of East Lamar Street in Sherman. A man had been shampooing the carpet in his house and accidentally ran the carpet cleaner over a 220-volt plug in the floor. This caused a large spark and a small fire. The man called 9-1-1 and had his family evacuate the house. When firefighters arrived there was no fire, said Fire Marshal J.D. Baggs. Firefighters cleared the building and the family was able to re-enter.

Sherman Police


Assault — An officer spoke with a woman Nov. 9 in the 800 block of South Elm Street. The woman said her adult son pushed her and broke her phone when she tried to call the police. The officer arrested the son for assault by contact family member and for interference with emergency call.


Burglary — On Nov. 9 an officer responded to a hotel in the 2900 block of North Highway 75 in reference to a burglary of a pickup truck. The victim said he had left a pole chainsaw in the bed of his truck during his stay at the hotel and found the chainsaw to be missing. The officer made a report for burglary of a vehicle.


Criminal mischief — A woman reported to police Nov. 9 that while her car was parked in the 1900 block of Southridge Lane, someone let the air out of two of the car’s tires. Police made a report for criminal mischief.


Indecency with a child — An officer went to the Children’s Advocacy Center in the 900 block of Cottonwood Drive on Nov. 9 in reference to possible indecency with a child. A detective came to the location and took over the investigation.


DWI — On Nov. 9 an officer went to the 4000 block of South Highway 75 in reference to a possible intoxicated driver. When the officer arrived he found a man standing near his damaged vehicle. Police found the man to be intoxicated, and he was arrested and taken to Grayson County Jail.


Burglary — An officer responded on Nov. 9 to a business in the 2800 block of North U.S. Highway 75 regarding a burglary. Suspects entered the building after hours and stole $900 worth of property. The officer made a report for burglary of a building.


Driving while license invalid — On Nov. 9, officers reported to an accident in the 800 block of South Dewey Avenue. Officers found that the suspect had been driving with a suspended license and had previous convictions of driving while license invalid. A report was made for driving while license invalid with previous convictions.


Driving while license invalid — An officer initiated a traffic stop Nov. 9 in the 200 block of North Grand Avenue. During the stop, the driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license and had a previous conviction for driving while license invalid. The officer arrested the driver for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction, and made an offense report.


Aggravated assault with deadly weapon — Sherman police dispatch received a call on Nov. 9 reporting an aggravated assault in the 2300 block of West Taylor Street. The victim said he opened the front door to his residence and saw the suspect pointing a gun at his face. The victim grabbed a bat and chased the suspect into the parking lot. The suspect produced a bat and struck the victim with it, then fled the scene. Police made a report for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation is ongoing.


Assault by contact — An officer responded to reports of an assault on Nov. 9 at a restaurant in the 4800 block of Texoma Parkway. The officer was told that a woman threw a glass of ice at a waitress and then left the restaurant without paying her bill. The officer made offense reports.


Assault — On Nov. 9, an officer reported to a hotel in the 1800 block of Texoma Parkway regarding an assault. The victim said he had been assaulted with a chair, and as a result sustained injuries and felt pain. While the officer and the victim were speaking, the suspect came into the room intoxicated and yelling obscenities. The officer arrested the suspect for loud, disturbing, unnecessary noise and public intoxication. A report was made for assault causes bodily injury.


Death investigation — An officer went on Nov. 10 to a house in the 1200 block of North Harrison Avenue for a possible death investigation. Upon arrival, the officer found a deceased man in the house. The officer made a report for death investigation.


Obstruction or retaliation — A suspect was being booked into the county jail on Nov. 10. During the booking process the suspect threatened bodily harm to a police officer. Police added retaliation to the suspect’s charges.


Theft — On Friday officers responded to the 1200 block of East Ida Road. A suspect cut a gate open and stole a 16-foot, enclosed trailer. The officers made a report for theft.
