WHITEWRIGHT — Whitewright police are investigating a suspicious fire that occurred Wednesday morning and have a suspect in custody.

At about 7:05 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire at a house in the 500 block of W. Walnut Street, said Whitewright Police Lt. Beau Heistand. The residents were not in the house at the time of the fire. The fire completely destroyed the house, Heistand said.


Whitewright police have arrested a Whitewright man in connection with the fire. He was arrested for arson to a habitation and aggravated assault - family violence with a deadly weapon, Heistand said in a press release. The suspect is being held at the Grayson County Jail, and bond was set at $300,000.
